Biography

My work is an attempt to capture an instant moment of the moment [刹那, chalna]; especially those moments of enlightenment imbued in my memory. In my work, I tried to embody the imprinted moments formed with psychological altitude, emotional element, a new discovery or an opposing element of experienced. And to have the temporal concept of the “present” in which the circumstances occurred expressed as an artwork, the contrast and coloration extracted from the “present” were transferred on the sculpture of human body. The work has colored contrast with strong shading. Because I believe a shadow of any shape can represent a moment of the time. For example, in a sundial, a shadow points to a single number, and I looked more focused on the shape of the shadow rather than on the number. If we had such an ability to distinguish a shape from similar shapes of shadows to the other, we would have been able to suppose a time by looking at the shape of the shadow I wanted the audience to sympathize and reach the scenes of my memories and to share by looking through the "sculpture of the human body” - it should not be stereoscopically formed but similar and a collection of images - from a circumstance. A scene in memory could be seen in black and white or in color, it is also like a touchable object yet just a plane image. In fact, I do not know clearly. I assume my work process is an act of tracing the memory. I’ve done works in black and white and color, and I’ve also done placing it on the floor or work platform and installed on the wall. Some parts of the work exist as sculpture objects, and they also exist as images. For example, some wrinkles of clothes were carved, when some others were depicted by brush touches.
