About the Artists
Hyunkyoung Shin
Gimpo, South Korea, b. 1960
In Hyunkyoung Shin's work, which fills the screen with countless dashed lines, one can detect a psychological phenomenon of 'repetition compulsion'. The lines that repeatedly break and reemerge are a repetition of presence and absence. Similar to Freud's concept of the infant's "fort-da game", the act of actively adjusting presence and absence brings pleasure and alleviates anxiety. Rather than remembering repressed desires or impulses as things of the past, the artist seeks to constantly evoke and experience them in the present through repetition.

Cheongju, South Korea, b. 1958
Seunghee Lee (b. 1958, Cheongju, Korea) studied craft at Cheongju University and has built a practice grounded in the traditions of ceramic making while pushing it into a contemporary context. Working primarily with porcelain, he is known for his “Porcelain Paintings” and the “Space of 8mm” series, where layered clay surfaces are built up and carved back to create subtle reliefs that hover between image and object. His work often draws from historical Korean ceramics, reinterpreting their forms through a restrained, minimal visual language that emphasizes surface, depth, and empty space. Rooted in a disciplined and time-intensive process, his practice reflects a sustained inquiry into material, tradition, and the artist’s own path. Lee’s work has been widely exhibited internationally, with presentations across Asia, Europe, and the United States.
